In this week’s edition of “Our Take on Cruise”, Roger Blum and Shannon Mckee cover multiple topics including the #SeatradeCruiseAwards which takes place during Seatrade Europe in September. If you or your team have made a significant contribution to the cruise industry over the last year, then you should check it out. There’s a long list of categories to choose from including Port of the Year, Destination of the Year, Product of the Year, Sustainability Initiative of the year and so many more! There’s still time to enter, but you should hurry.
They also discuss the continuous leadership role that the cruise industry has taken in sustainability. Ponant has announced a zero-emission vessel, and the IMO is catching up with the cruise industry by announcing a net-zero goal by 2050 (CLIA announced this for the cruise industry a while ago).
Also on a less happy topic, the recent bankruptcy of Vantage Travel and Vantage Cruises. Naturally, our hearts go to out to all their employees, but many suppliers, vendors and even shore excursion operators continued to service their vessels, while not getting paid, to ensure their guests would have a great experience in their destinations. There’s a long list of creditors, so it won’t be easy for them to recover any of the money that’s owed.
Finally, a shout out to long-time industry professional, Steve Moeller. Congratulations 🎉 on his new role with Huna Totem Corporation!
